The last few years I have devoted much of my time to texture and material creation. The process I use depends quite a bit on what type of material I’m creating. Many natural materials I will fully sculpt in Zbrush and finish off in Photoshop, but for many man-made materials I will use Substance Designer, nDo or dDo. I rarely do much straight photosource anymore, but I use photos when necessary to get the look that the project requires.
